Remove The Old Roof

You will likely have to remove the old roof before putting in the new roofing material. Many people will install multiple roof layers one on top of the other to save time; But adding too many layers (i.e. asphalt shingles) can lead to premature roof failure. The old roof must be closed down to the siding and rebuilt.

After removing the old roof, evaluate the siding. Roof sheathing is made up of flat panels that provide structural support and a base on which roof materials, such as tiles, are attached. Look for damp areas or trouble spots that need to be replaced.
